Brassaï

For this project, I choose to emulate the Hungarian–French photographer Brassaï. Along with being a photographer, he was a sculptor, medalist, writer, and filmmaker. His work showcases life in Paris at night and captures images of deserted streets, prostitutes, lovers, sailors, and nightlife. To emulate his work, I took images of the nightlife at the University of Delaware on a Thursday night in May. Brassaï's images are displayed on the top row and the images captured by Maria Cox are displayed in the bottom row.

Emulating A Professional Photographer

Course Goals and Achievements

Reflecting on the goals I set before starting this course I think I have been able to achieve my goals. My first goal was to learn how to take higher-quality photos. I was able to do this by practicing new techniques I developed with each assignment. My second goal was to learn to use photography to communicate ideas. I developed this by reviewing the work of famous photographers and through my multimodal presentation of Sally Mann's work. My last goal was to learn the fundamentals of photography and I believe I achieved this goal by watching the class lectures.

Comment

I really like the picture you posted. I think you did a great job emulating Simone Bramante’s photo by using monochromatic colors and the top view and you were able to emulate the work without directly copying the original. I also liked the other two photos you captured that weren't included in your blog post.
